What a flippin’ lush weekend in the West Country 💙 What a flippin’ lush weekend in the West Country 💙

We’ve now seen all of the seasons since moving back to the UK nearly 10 months ago and Spring feels like the most rewarding.

I don’t think I’ve ever been so aware of the seasonal flowers, budding leaves and what a difference longer days make to my mood.

It’s taken a long time to adapt back to UK life after living abroad. I still feel out of place for a variety of reasons. It’s complicated 😆 But blue skies and the warmth of the sun on my face after a long grey winter are just what I need.

Did the sun shine where you are this weekend?

If seeing elephants is on your Thailand bucket lis If seeing elephants is on your Thailand bucket list we can recommend @followinggiants in Krabi. It’s an ethical sanctuary supported by @world_animal_protection_uk

🐘 Why choose an ethical sanctuary?

Elephants used for entertainment and logging have been brutally conditioned to be submissive. While it might look like they are enjoying a cuddle, they only tolerate it because they believe they will be punished if they don’t.

🐘 The Following Giants experience

We spent the morning trekking through the 80 acre sanctuary, watching elephants be elephants. There’s no touching, feeding or bathing.

Of course, the elephants know they can get food from humans, so one came up to the restaurant for a bunch of bananas but this was her choice, and she was lead away by her mahoot before she was allowed to eat them.

We loved our visit to the sanctuary which felt more like a foot safari than a zoo or staged show.

💻 Find out more about out day at Following Giants and what else we got up to in Krabi over on tinboxtraveller.co.uk but let me know if you have any questions

Our 21 days island hopping from Malaysia to Thaila Our 21 days island hopping from Malaysia to Thailand had so many stand out moments. It’s about time I shared them!

This was the longest trip we have done as a family covering two countries, five stops and incredible places that we hope to revisit one day. The tiny island of Koh Lipe was particularly special.

Here’s a summery of our trip:

Days 1 to 4: Penang

We began our three week adventure exploring the cultural and adventurous highlights of Malaysia’s Penang Island, staying at the historic E&O. With a tonne of help from our friends, Jenny and Jay Lynn, we ticked off Penang Hill, the National Park, Ferrangi Beach, the Escape adventure park and the street art of George Town.

Days 5 to 7: Kuala Lumpur

Our journey to Malaysia’s capital involved catching a ferry from Penang to the mainland and taking the train into the city. We spent our two full days in KL visiting the Batu Cave Temple, the city eco jungle and the Petronas Towers.

Days 8 to 11: Langkawi

After a short flight from KL we shifted to relaxation mode. Langkawi was all about our hotel pool, the beach and a boat trip to see eagles, monkeys and bats in the mangroves of Kilim National Park.

Days 12 to 15: Koh Lipe

The only way to Lipe is by ferry. We loved the laid-back island vibes, incredible snorkelling right off the beach, exploring Walking Street, and fire shows on the beach.

Days 16 to 21: Krabi

One last ferry trip took us to Krabi and our final base, Ao Nang, where we island hopped, visited an ethical elephant sanctuary and almost bit off more than we could chew climbing 1,260 steps up to the Tiger Cave Temple.

What’s the longest trip you have ever done?
But IRL…we were totally spoilt with long haul holi But IRL…we were totally spoilt with long haul holidays over the past three years and landing back in the UK has reshaped our travel plans - regardless of w@rs, political mayhem and the global economic crisis.

So we’ll be hanging out in sunny South Devon and have booked a summer break in…North Devon 😃

To keep the travel dream alive, I’m diving into my diary and camera roll to share our 2025 Malaysia to Thailand trip.

Our 21 day itinerary is now live on tinboxtraveller.co.uk so if you are planning a big trip or, like me, enjoy a daydream, you’ll find all the details over on the website.
