Memories: one year ago we were leaving Oman 😭 I’v Memories: one year ago we were leaving Oman 😭

I’ve spent months grieving for our life there - the friends we made, the adventures we had.

It was such a special chapter and one that changed us in so many ways. I’ll be forever grateful 🥰

We will return one day, inshallah!

To be honest, it was more of a reunion with friends we met in Oman, which made the evening all the more fabulous.

And yes, I did need a nap today!
It’s nearly a year since we found ourselves living It’s nearly a year since we found ourselves living part-time in on the Wiltshire/West Oxfordshire border. So I thought it was time I gave grid space to some of our adventures in and around Swindon.

Over on the blog I’ve shared more about:

📍 White Horse Hill @nationaltrust
📍 Coleshill National Trust
📍 @milletsfarm

And our work here is not done! Before our inevitable next move (thanks to Mr Tin Box’s military job), I have quite a few more places on our summer bucket list.

Wiltshire and West Oxfordshire folks: where would you recommend within an hour of home?

Same beach, same boards and five years of life in Same beach, same boards and five years of life in between.

Our much loved paddle boards came all the way to Oman and back with us.

But I’ll be honest, it was a slog to get them out there because it was so blinking hot.

We’re looking forward to using them more over the summer in sunny and hopefully less sweltering Devon.

Send me your favourite paddle spots!

Does anyone else feel like they’re quick stepping Does anyone else feel like they’re quick stepping towards the holidays?

The girls have been busy at school with end of year trips and play practice.

Note to self 1: must organise an elephant costume.

Mr Tin Box has been international for work (and brought back a nice cold as a souvenir).

And I’ve been switching between days of pure focus on blogs and newsletters to social secretarying for the 11-year-old.

Yesterday I stepped off the dance floor for a day in London with a catch up with some of my friends met in Oman. There’s nothing like debrief with other ladies juggling all the balls.

Note to self 2: committing to daytime wine in the capital and travelling to Devon for the weekend in the same 10 hours isn’t as easy as it was in your 20s 🤣

We’ve been living part-time on the Oxfordshire/Wil We’ve been living part-time on the Oxfordshire/Wiltshire border for nearly a year now, exploring when we have spare moments between work, school and weekends in Devon.

A full blog post on what we’ve been up to here is well overdue. But while I get my writing chops around that, here’s somewhere we visited this weekend: Butterfly World & Farm Park at Sudley Grange near Swindon.

WHAT’S TO DO

Spend an hour or so meeting the mammals, birds, insects and reptiles at this small, no frills zoo and farm attraction that comes with a garden centre, soft play and craft workshops (extra charge for those last two).

There’s a surprising number of animals at this small attraction. We saw plenty of this Spring’s babies too from meerkat kittens to kid goats.

The lizards and snakes were a highlight for our reptile-loving 11-year-old but she was also keen on adopting the otters and rabbits.

THE DAMAGE

Family tickets: £28 (2 adults and 2 children or 1 adult and 3 children)

EXTRAS

Complete your trip with a visit to one of Sudley Grange’s restaurants for toasties, jackets or pasty meals or a generous slab of cake. We paid £38 for three cold drinks and three main meals.

If you’ve been following me since the beginning yo If you’ve been following me since the beginning you’ll know that Tin Box Traveller started out as a caravanning blog.

Since then we’ve camped, paddled, holidayed in Europe, moved to Oman and come all the way back again.

I’d like to think the golden thread through it all is a love of outdoor adventures. That’s why we embraced camping in Oman.

But how did it compare to the UK?
